RERA- Real Estate (Regulations and Development) Act came into existence in 2016, to safeguard the interests of homebuyers by the Government of India. Under this Act, builders cannot change an ongoing project without the buyers’ consent.The project is liable to be completed in the promised time, the builder is liable to pay interest on the amount paid by the buyers. In addition, a buyer must open a separate escrow account and place70% of the money raised for the project for the construction of the project only, this ensures that the builder does not start a new project using the buyers’ money before completing the project for which money was collected, and it also ensures that the project is completed in stipulated time.
